Mid Summer's Fun in July

The local festivities opens with the Frome Festival, a full 2 weeks worth of exhibitions, shows and workshops for all the family, heralded in by the world-renowned award-winning DJ Judge Jules Live and his ten piece band in a fabulous opening night party at the Cheese and Grain on Friday 5th July.

The Frome Festival is delighted to be involved in the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of JW Singer and the foundry that dominated the Frome skyline for many years, casting some of the world’s most famous statues. The Festival concludes with the Frome Symphony and conductor Mark Gateshill presenting a programme of popular works by Mozart and Beethoven on Sunday July 14th.

Other festive highlights include Frome Festival Fashion Show on Tuesday 9th and The Drifters at the Memorial Theatre Friday 19th July.

The family activities start with the Stone Age Summer at Cheddar Gorge from 20th July to 1st September, where children can walk in the footsteps of our Stone Age ancestors in this prehistoric landscape. Kids can dig through sand trays to discover ancient artefacts, make their very own clay thumb pots and try their hand at brass rubbing, creating etchings of extinct creatures such as the wondrous woolly mammoth.

Summer Family Fun can be found in rich supply at the Bishop’s Palace on Wednesday 24th July through to Monday 26th August in Wells. Families can enjoy Crafty Cats days, Nature Ninjas garden sessions, a day with Alice in Wonderland, be enthralled by an epic tale of King Arthur and hone their Medieval combat skills on the August bank holiday weekend.
